UNLESS was conceived as a philosophical parable that explores the pressing problems of consumer society, humanity's relationship with nature and the responsibility of the present generation towards the future.
The visuals of the film are deliberately imbued with references to such iconic works as Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey, Michelangelo's The Creation of Adam from the Sistine Chapel, medieval depictions of the Beasts of the Apocalypse . In the final scene of the film there is a reference to the modern ‘space god’, who began space exploration with the launch of a red Tesla. The film's tagline is a quote from Theodor Seuss Geisel's book The Lorax.
The project is designed for a family audience. It will appeal to both children who can appreciate its colourful and symbolic visuals and adults who can understand its deep themes. This multi-layered approach opens up a wide range of distribution possibilities. The film could be included in an anthology of short films on climate issues, used as educational material in schools to discuss environmental responsibility and sustainable consumption, and inspire a series of stories based on its characters.

Building on the animation framework, the project could grow into an interactive platform. It can be an environmental news portal, a communication space for those interested in conserving the Earth's resources, and a creative centre where children can use animated characters to create their own stories about environmental conservation.
