Chris Chung, born in Hong Kong, has spent the last 20 years in the UK, where he’s woven a unique journey from Japanese chef to photographer. After over a decade in the culinary arts, Chris made the bold transition to full-time photography in 2019. He now calls Margate, a scenic coastal town in southeast England, home, where he recently opened his own photography store. Photography, for Chris, is deeply personal—centered around capturing the essence of people and their stories. His love for photography was ignited in his teenage years when his father gifted him a camera, and Chris began documenting life through the lens. Although his passion for photography simmered quietly during his time as a chef, it wasn’t until a break from the culinary world that he rediscovered his true calling behind the camera. Today, Chris’s portfolio spans landscapes from his extensive travels, weddings, portraits, and commercial photography, with a focus on properties and food. He also lends his talents to social causes, working with NGOs such as SGI-UK. His approach to photography is profoundly influenced by his Buddhist practice, guided by the teachings of his mentor, Daisaku Ikeda who was an educator and peace-builder, and the philosophy of Nichiren Daishonin.
