Animation Production 2024 : Broken Legs Production is a team of 6 passionate student filmmakers. The concept is purposefully multi-media as to include our video production students, 3D focused students, and 2D focused students, giving the project a Gumball-esk feeling. The pitch itself was made in the memory of early 2000 vlogs and echo how over-the-top and ridiculous vloggers can get. Characters include our goofy protagonist Tyler, the short high-energy teen, who is the most enthusiastic about the blog. Then, we have Chet, the low-key and anxious friend who happens to be there and tag long with his bestie, whether he wants to or not. Lastly, we have the chaperon, Grandpappy Grimwar, a chaotic evil tag-along who is suppose to be there to keep the boys out of trouble, but ends up getting them into even deeper trouble than ever before.
Our animation production team went through two different drafts of the storyboard to get the composition and timing right. I was given free rein of the complex set-up of the characters running away from the scene of the crime when the cops bust in. Due to the space available in the IRL location we picked, I decided to have the car burst through the wall.
Once we settled on which film pitch we would be going with, the first two weeks of this project was spent drafting and cleaning up the script. Simultaneously, the team tried to figure out the style of animation we preferred. This was also a test to see what style everyone could replicate. As the primary 3D character modeler in the group, I was assigned to make a low poly model of Grandpappy and rig it. illustrator…Animation Production 2024 : Broken Legs Production is a team of 6 passionate student filmmakers.
