    uniE608 The Medium's Massage
In this portfolio piece, titled “The Medium’s Massage Mcluhan Vs Today,” I embarked on a careful evaluation of the claims put forth by the notable Edmonton intellectual Marshall McLuhan and examined their impact on our modern society. To shed light on this intricate matter, I enlisted the expertise of professor Iain Macpherson, a respected scholar in the field. Marshall McLuhan, hailed as a pioneer in media theory, captured the collective imagination with his groundbreaking insights into the influence of media on human perception and culture. His ideas were often characterized by their thought-provoking nature and were driven by his belief that the medium through which a message is transmitted is as influential as the message itself. Throughout history, countless intellectual figures have shaped our understanding of the world, but not all have stood the test of time. Therefore, it is crucial to assess McLuhan’s assertions in the context of our contemporary reality. uniE608 Last Store Standing (Directors Cut)
This portfolio piece is my cut of a film project I did with Keatyn Bauer, Sean Bell and Claire Hannemann during my learning tenure at MacEwan University. It centres around the last videostore in Edmonton “The Lobby” and the issues the owner Kevin Martin has faced over the years including the pandemic and how he pays his rent, with a tease of his upcoming film ironically entitled “The Last Videostore.” I did this project because I have a passion for physical media and movies overall (as can be seen with the film essays in my blog.) So being able to highlight this important pillar of the movie community in Edmonton was an incredible experience. Kevin Martin was a fantastic host and would often let us come back to get more footage for the film. Overall this is one of the projects I was most passionate about. In the university course this film centred around each of us had to pitch a film with a pitch deck, mine was the one to win out and we pursued this project which is how i ended up being the director. Due to unfortunate health circumstances, I could not finish my version of the final cut, and it was laid on my group members to come up with something with our footage and my music on their own. While their version is good, I still didn’t want the hours of work I put into my cut to go to waste. So here is my cut of the film. Enjoy! video filmdirector videoeditor
