Red Nose Day / Rode Neuzen Dag / 2021 - at-thetable / DPG media - I recently had the pleasure of directing, illustrating and animating the national advertising campaign for Red Nose Day 2021 in Belgium (Rode Neuzen Dag).
The campaign is to highlight the charities work in training new teachers in schools across Belgium to spot the first signs of children struggling with their emotional wellbeing. I was contacted by the team at at-thetable to direct and animate an advert based on this concept, using the ideas of superheroes and sidekicks to represent the support between teachers and students.
The ad will be playing on national television in Belgium as well as in cinemas. It is also complimented by large scale illustrations of the characters in print.

This is another taste of sounds from Werkha's forthcoming sophomore album ‘All Werk Is Play’, following on from singles, ‘Eterno Retorno’,’In Saint-Gilles’ and ‘Battered Mars Bar’, which respectively received spins from BBC 6Music’s Jamz Supernova, Tom Ravenscroft, Huey Morgan and Afrodeutsche, as well as love from selectors such as DJ Paulette, Scratcha DVA, Zakia Sewell (NTS) & Jyoty (Rinse).
In 2020, Werkha released ‘The Rigour’ on First Word, and dropped ‘Beat Tapestry’ in late 2021 on a limited cassette. ‘All Werk Is Play’ marks Werkha’s first full-length solo project since his debut album ‘Colours Of A Red Brick Raft’ on Tru Thoughts in 2015.
‘Move Different’ is another uptempo composition from Werkha, fusing analogue jazz-funk vibes with modern dance music sensibilities. Rolling breaks and throaty flutes accompany double bass from Nick Blacka (GoGo Penguin), horns from Aaron Wood, and panned soulful vocals courtesy of Ellen Beth Abdi, who previously appeared on ‘In Sunny G’ from ‘The Rigour’.
Werkha hails from Manchester and has been releasing music for a decade, collaborating and remixing artists such as Quantic, Bryony Jarman-Pinto, Marcos Valles and Andrew Ashong, and touring with Bonobo, Chet Faker and Mr Scruff.'
Move Different' is out on all digital platforms now.'All Werk Is Play' is out on First Word Records, April 29th 2022.
