Hey, everyone! My name is John V. Srsen, and I am the Music Director at St. Vitus Catholic Church in Cleveland, Ohio. In addition, I am also a singer-songwriter. Since I could breathe, music was part of my life. I was born, as I often say, in a choir loft. There were several midnight masses as a kid where I fell asleep on the kneeler next to where my dad was directing the choir. So my musical journey started from the very beginning. Singing, of course, was the very beginnings of becoming a musician through what I refer to as "spiritual osmosis." The first instrument I learned was the piano, beginning at the age of 5. In 8th grade, I saw how all of my friends were learning to play the guitar, so I decided to learn it as well. In my high school years, I tried out playing the bass guitar, but I could never get past playing with my thumb. I even got a mandolin, which I never really got the hang of. Around the same time, I found myself casually playing church hymns by ear on the piano. Eventually, my Dad threw me up onto a pipe organ console, so he put my playing by ear to good use. It wasn't until my 3rd year at Otterbein University where I took one year of organ lessons, so I could finally learn how to play not just with my hands but also my feet, which proved to be quite a challenge. Who knows if I will pick up any new instruments, but in reality all instruments are related to the other. In addition to learning many instruments, I also began to try out writing my own songs. I recall having written some songs in the 8th grade, but I wrote a bulk of my songs during my high school years. By my senior year, I had an entire notebook filled front to back with lyrics. Most of them, of course, were God-awful, but I did manage to create enough songs written on piano and guitar as well as writing in some alternate guitar tunings. During this period, my parents got me some recording equipment, so I could record some of these songs. The recordings in the early years were also pretty awful, but by the time I graduated college, I had taken two semesters of audio production and felt like I could begin recording my first professional album. I began recording it in 2012, and about 11 years later it was finally finished. When you are your own producer, there are no deadlines. But I can say that my first album came out really well. As a result, I wanted to share it to the world, which is why I created this website. I hope you would all consider purchasing it. Thank you so much!
