uniE603 The Lonely Traveller -Fantasy Piece (for solo piano)
Written during a period of emotional instability and personal self discovery, this piece is themed primarily around the concept of working towards a personal goal, but could equally be seen as moving through life, or any journey we undertake purely for ourselves. It begins with simplicity in the first melody, the goal is set, the path clear, but as the piece develops, unexpected tonal shifts and rhythmic patterns creep in. Furthermore, two additional melodies begin competing for our attention, such as within life, goals adapt and priorities change, so we must keep reminding ourselves of what we set out to do, and thus the original melody continues to resurface throughout. Finally, the journey culminates in a sort of rollercoaster, shifting rapidly through keys at an unexpected pace, before finally relaxing into a sense of serenity, for as the trials of any journey may seem frantic and unending, when we reflect upon all we have seen and are satisfied, the tribulations seem trivial, and the wonders worthwhile. audio Classical Piano Fantasy
    uniE603 06 Battle With Vegnagun
Music I composed for the first of my two projects at Bangor University: A re-scoring of original fantasy music for elements from Square-Enix's "Final Fantasy X-2" (2003). I use melodic motifs to link together key story elements within the game. A brief summary below: Airship - an area theme, PCs' "base" Title Theme - Opening credits and title screen Yuna's Ballad - Main character theme Bevelle Underground and Farplane - Field themes, areas where significant plot points occur Battle with Vegnagun/Shuyin - Final battle themes Shuyin and Lenne Fall - Movie Scene specific composition Words that Never Die - Theme song relating to story content audio Game Fantasy Video Game Orchestral

    uniE603 Iannis, Valour In Chaos
Part of a small series of works inspired by a previous Dungeons and Dragons campaign. This piece focuses on the character of Iannis, a Chaos sorcerer powerful enough to attain godhood. Ruler of a secretive society of elven magicians, his philosophy is to act as a benevolent deity, influencing events surrounding mortals for the better, but never interfering directly and always remaining unseen. His actions angered his former benefactor, Vecna, god of secrets, who along with a number of allies, tricked Iannis into exile to the realm of Chaos, where he remains trapped, doomed to fade from existence as the lie that he has perished slowly permeates even among his most devout. His only remaining link to his homeland is his son Viridi, who refuses to accept his father's disappearance, and searches to restore him by any means possible, but he has been deceived into Vecna's service. The god of secrets thus monopolising Iannis's fate, he intends to bury the secret of his existence forever. audio Classical Game Orchestral Fantasy
uniE603 Words That Never Die (improved Mix)
Song written in part fulfilment of a Master's Degree project involving rescoring a video game soundtrack, this track was to be the Main Theme and End Credits piece and alludes to a key element in the game's plotline. The project was completed in 2016, but I decided to enhance the track with a second mix, to reflect the additional experience gained since beginning my professional career. Vocalist on the track is Hannah Alice, live guitars and bass played by myself. Drums are samples edited in Kontakt, strings and piano are East-West samples, played in live on keyboard and then edited. audio Alternative Rock Rock Symphonic Rock Game Soundtrack
    uniE603 1m1 -Premonition
The second half of my Master's degree, a rescoring of various cues from an Episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer (Joss Whedon) entitled "Hush"(S4 Ep 10, 1999). As a brief synopsis, the gang's hometown of Sunnydale is beset by an eerie group of monsters known as "The Gentlemen". They steal the voices of everyone in Sunnydale, so they can go about their business of collecting human hearts in silence. The gang, and some unlikely allies, must find a way to work together to discover and combat the threat, without being able to use their voice. I chose this episode to score because, since the majority of it has no dialogue, there was more onus on the music to provide the interest. It was a fun project to work on,the villains required subtle, eerie scoring, the deeds were more horrific, there are also action scenes to score, and a number of comedy elements to weave in, so there was really a lot to achieve. A few of the cues below are grouped, because they run in quick succession on screen. Unfortunately for copyright reasons, I can't display the episode, but if anyone is curious as to how I fit the elements to image (since that was the point of the project) please contact me for a private link. audio Soundtrack Horror Dark Fantasy Soundtrack
