Ramon Ruiz Sampaio is a documentary photographer and videographer born on August 6, 1985, in Mexico City. He started his studies in philosophy before training in photography at the Active School of Photography in Mexico City. In 2011, he moved to New York to further his education at the International Center of Photography (ICP), where he completed the Photojournalism and Documentary Photography program and received the Directors Grant and the Rita K. Hillman Award. His project on Parkinson's disease patients and caregivers earned him the Hillman Foundation Fellowship in 2013, as well as recognition as a Fellow of the Mexican Fund for the Arts. He also received an honorable mention at Foto Visura. His work has been featured in several solo and group exhibitions in Mexico, Brazil, Canada, the USA, and China, where he was awarded Best International Photographer at the Pingyao International Photography Festival. In 2001, he released Nosotros Contra el Mundo, a short documentary film he produced, directed, and photographed, exploring the rock climbing scene in Cuba. Ramon is the founder of OME, a production company specializing in both commercial and documentary photo and video production, as well as post-production services.
