Rene Maurin (*1971) is a German / Slovene author, producer, and educator born in Slovenia, ex-Yugoslavia. His creative work is often marked by roaming several mediums, centered around the exploration of visual narrative language. He acquired formal education in the United States, Austria, Croatia, and Slovenia. After graduation in performing arts, he filmed a series of documentaries for the Slovenian National Television and won the attention of audiences and critics with films such as “I Saw Elvis!” (1999) and “Life, as from Inside” (2000). He dedicates the next decade to performing arts and takes over the management of Ptuj City Theatre in Slovenia. He directs numerous performances that reap acclaim and selected awards in Slovenia and abroad. In 2012, he enrolled on the master course in film directing at the AGRFT and directed his first fiction film “Bright Black” (2014). Among others, the film received the award for the best academic achievement of the University of Ljubljana and toured numerous prestigious international film festivals. In 2013, he co-founded the photo-literary zine REBUS and continued to publish his visual and textual works. He keeps being active as a producer and project manager. His teaching experience began in 2012 when he started to teach master's degree courses at the Institute of Media Communication at the University of Maribor and other international institutions such as the University of Arts London.
