Her artistic creativity was nurtured along with her appreciation for different cultures. Sabira found her musical calling in her early teens, in San Diego, CA. Continuing the search for new vistas, she headed north, and soon was busking with her guitar while living in BC, Canada. After returning to the US, she studied voice in San Francisco, and added the 5-string banjo; singing and playing folk, rock, reggae, jazz and opera. In San Diego, Sabira met keyboard virtuoso, Ron Nathan. Together they founded the Island Fever band, and added the sparkling sound of their steel pan duets. Sabira has toured throughout California, the Caribbean, Western Canada, Mexico, Greece, Ireland, France and Hawaii, expanding her musical range from multi-cultural influences. She went to the West Indies to experience the music of the steel pan and the culture from which it developed. In Trinidad and in the U.S., Sabira had the opportunity to learn from the source, meeting and befriending some of the people who actually developed the steel pan and are considered masters of the instrument today. Sabira has performed in numerous Concerts, Expositions, Cruise Ships, Musicals, Rennaissance Faires, Street Theatre Troupes, Wholistic Celebrations, Benefits, Parties, Weddings and other events; performing in many styles including Jazz, World, Trop-Rock, Folk, New Age, Reggae, Calypso, Soca, Salsa, Pop, Oldies, Showtunes, Swing, Country, and more... Sabira has written, recorded and performed compositions for special events, awareness workshops, meditation workshops and documentaries. Sabira studied guitar and harmony singing with SF Bay area folk singer/musician Carol McComb. With her pure and expressive voice, and inspired musicianship, Sabira is an artist who reaches the soul. Her performances are playful, her messages are insightful, deep and compassionate. Her music appeals to a wide range of people from diverse backgrounds. Sabira spends a lot of her time immersed in nature. She loves observing wildlife in the forests and boulder strewn hills of southern CA, and along the California coastline.
