Education and Professional Background Stephan Fröhlich grew up in North Rhine-Westphalia and graduated from the Söderblom-Gymnasium in Dortmund. After completing an internship at the film production company Omnimago in Ingelheim, he decided to study directing. After studying at Ruhrakademie Schwerte and graduating as a Diplom-Director in 2015, he moved into the field of commercial film production. In 2015, he co-founded Format Fröhlich Filmproduktion in Dortmund with his father, a company that is now known for its innovative image films, music videos, and advertising campaigns. The company offers a wide range of services in the areas of moving image, cross-media, and social media production as well as marketing. Teaching and Engagement From 2015 to 2024, Stephan Fröhlich worked as a lecturer at Deutsche POP, teaching in the fields of camera, editing, and photography. After the closure of Deutsche POP, he continued to teach at Makromedia Hochschule, where he now takes on the subject of Audiovisual Media. In addition, he is the Bachelor Program Leader and lecturer for the Film and Media Production program at the University of West London, where he not only teaches students in both the theory and practice of film production but also leads the Bachelor’s program. In addition to his academic work, Stephan Fröhlich is the founder and initiator of the short film festival “Spitziale”, which he organized and ran for ten years. During his tenure, the festival brought together emerging filmmakers and well-known figures in the film industry. However, Stephan has stepped down from his role and shifted his focus to new projects. Filmmaker and Awards Stephan Fröhlich has been involved as a director and cameraman in numerous projects, including commercials, music videos, and image films. One of the highlights of his career was the production of the short film “Du gehörst mir”, which was selected for the Short Film Oscars 2022 and was supported by the Film and Media Foundation NRW. Fröhlich was involved as a producer and Director of Photography (DoP) on the project. His expertise spans many areas of film production, with a particular focus on the commercial film industry and the artistic execution of visual projects.
