Sign in: https://www.twine.net/signup_ My music has been described as fresh: rich in personality and character, with offbeat sonorities and unusual instrumental combinations, episodic shifts, extended silences, vocal choruses, ear-catching dissonances resolving into harmonic sweetness, bold and individualistic, explorative and experimental. I am a highly visual person, profoundly influenced by film, architecture, and painting (my wife is a visual artist). My soundtracks are ideally a collaborative effort, interpreting the director’s voice while also reacting to it. Following in the path forged by a wide swath of composers from Jonny Greenwood to Terrence Blanchard (and countless others), who first developed successful careers as performers and composers away from Hollywood, my journey is a “stage to screen” trajectory. I have a deep variety of rich experiences, composing and performing in many genres of music, before turning relatively recently to screen scoring. I have a deep passion for, and interest in, the work of the Coen Brothers, Vince Gilligan, Debra Granik, Mike White, and Jesse Armstrong. My music is steeped in the cinematic sound of Carter Burwell, Nicholas Britell, Rachel Portman, Jonny Greenwood, Dave Porter, Hildur Guðnadóttir, and Cristobal Tapia de Veer. I have also studied the jazz language of Lalo Schifrin, Johnny Mandel, and Henry Mancini. A concert composer with decades of experience who’s breaking into the film music world, I bring to the table a fresh, rich, and varied tapestry of musical training, experience, and creation, which could greatly enrich a director’s vision. Education (specific details available on request): Film scoring study: Assaf Rinde, Christian Davis, Kurt Bestor, Sam Cardon, Larry Groupé, Palomar Film Music Workshop.
