In my debut feature film, Murder Ballads, Tom's expertise shone as he composed the entire score, skillfully blending various musical genres. His influence extended beyond the score as he collaborated in creating and mixing several songs for the film's band working seamlessly with a guitarist in the UK and a vocalist in the US. The banging ending credits track not only showcases his songwriting prowess, but also highlights his singing abilities, making for a satisfying and memorable conclusion to the film.
In the movie that depicts the rise and fall of a heavy rock band, I deliberately avoided limiting the score to solely rock music. Tom rose to the occasion, elevating each scene and the overall film with his diverse compositions. His work encompassed a range of styles including pop, rock, ska, electro, and even traditional horror score elements.
Tom is not only highly professional but also exceptionally efficient and a delight to collaborate with. He effortlessly incorporates notes and adjustments into his work while maintaining the confidence to stand by his ideas if he believes something won't be as effective. He truly cares about the film as a whole and doing what is best for it. One instance that exemplifies this occurred during an early scene where two characters were engaged in dialogue. I had attempted to incorporate too many elements into the musical score, but Tom not only accommodated my request but also presented an alternative that achieved my desired effect with greater subtlety and elegance. His version was undoubtedly superior and was ultimately incorporated into the final score.
When it comes to scoring requirements, Tom is an exceptional choice, and I highly recommend him.
