    uniE621 Brand Identity & Brand Strategy - Gallery Church
    Gallery Church needed a dynamic brand identity that was versatile enough to function in multiple cultures and languages across several unique neighborhoods in Baltimore. They wanted a full branding package that included logo(s), brand strategy, guidelines, plus website, communications, and marketing materials. Based on feedback from their team and a tour of their community, I decided on a primary color for their brand and built out additional secondary and accent colors with usage instructions. Once the colors were chosen, I began to build out a dynamic logo system for the churches. One of the issues that we wanted to take into consideration was making sure people understood it was actually a church and not an art gallery. I designed a modern, minimal icon along with custom type inspired by mid-century style of Bauhaus. The logo system included variations for vertical and horizontal applications, along with alternates for watermarks and a sub logo for their children’s programming. The comprehensive style guide also provided rules around brand voice/tone, established communication standards, and set boundaries for how the logos should be modified and shared publicly. The style guides were customized for each neighborhood and included a toolkit full of pre-made design resources and samples to work from.     Jim was expanding his services to include floor coatings and needed an update to his existing logo. I designed a dynamic logo system that also included a variety of visual identity assets for the brand launch.     Andrew Bohman is a Baltimore–based audio engineer and producer who specializes in recording and mixing classical, jazz, and folk music. He wanted to incorporate his initials into a logo design along with a microphone on a stand. His concept is a tribute to the logo of his grandfather’s old business so he requested that we maintain some similarity to the original idea. During the sketching phase I experimented with the letters, types and number of mics, and the angle of the stand. I focused on the flow of the XLR cable that formed the letters and the details of the stand. While the average person might not understand, Andrew has had multiple musicians and industry peers comment on the fine details with several even identifying the model of microphone used in the icon.
