Hi I'm Meis, I come from an architectural design background and I am looking to transition into the user-centred design world. I believe good design should be centred around people, empathetic and adaptive. I have just under four years of experience working in architectural practice in which I have become very comfortable and happy working both independently as well as in a team. In my time in architecture, working with various engineers and consultants in the design team was something I did in every project. I am experienced in producing documents on Adobe InDesign to present to clients, end users, planning officers and other stakeholders, as well as presenting 3D models, architectural drawings and diagrams in ArchiCad. My father’s battle with Parkinson’s Disease (PD) sparked my interest in accessibility in digital design, motivating me to transition careers. I aim to use UX and UI design to connect and empower individuals facing isolation and enable them to manage their circumstances with more ease and guidance. A project in my portfolio shows the research and prototype of a tablet app designed to be used with remote sensors to help PD patients carry out physical exercises in the correct way. It is my love for both research and testing that led me to complete my professional Diploma in UX Design at the UX Design Institute. Since the passing the course, I have completed speculative and real-life projects, one of which I worked with a medical herbalist and reiki healer in digitising their services and business. This has been a really great chance to put my education into practice and work with a real client who otherwise may not have known about UX research/design and its benefits. I used this opportunity to get deeper into the WCAG guidelines as well as learning from the A11y project. The project work also included logo design and UX copy.

Qualifications

UX Design Diploma
November 27, 2021 - May 27, 2022
My student project, which followed established methods of the UX process, started with research, and ended with a medium fidelity prototype, which I was able to test once, before producing a second iteration of design and then annotating the final wireframes. It was exciting to feel challenged in every project, and great to overcome difficulties quickly, by sticking to best practice and trusting that each exercise would enrich the final product, and therefore couldn’t be done half-heartedly. During the course, I learned to use online survey platforms like Survey Monkey and Google Forms, software such as Miro for affinity diagrams and user flow diagrams, Figma for prototyping and annotated wireframes, Camtasia and Reflector for usability testing as well as using InDesign for customer journey mapping.
