I'm a musician who specializes in songwriting and performing from London. I am a classically-trained singer with a background in jazz, soul and improvisation. My instruments also include the clarinet and tin whistle, a traditional Irish folk instrument. I have traditionally specialised in live performance, but as of this year, I have moved more into songwriting roles. I am currently the lead vocalist and lyricist for the Sweet Caporal, a post-rock band with strong country and folk influences. Our current project "Phonetrips" features, and is built around 70s telephone recordings by Evan Doorbell, and my lyrics often explore the challenges of communicating across distance - be it temporal, spatial or generational. I accompany this with warm, dream-like vocals, as well as instrumental melodies on the clarinet, tin whistle and synth. I also enjoy composing melodies and lyrics for art and theatre pieces, with my most recent work including writing and performing for 1001Create's piece "If I stay here any longer I'll stay here forever". The lyrics aimed to reflect the piece's subject matter, which was concerned with the state of being frozen in the act of preparation, or procrastination.
