    uniE621 Sith Happens
This project wasn’t for any real client, which I’m sure you can tell by the fact that it’s written by a Star Wars character. But I’m a huge Star Wars fan and wanted to share my love of the franchise with other artists on May the 4th. I was inspired by adding boba into the scene (a callout to another Star Wars character) and making Vader feel a bit more personal, so you get some insight to his personal character outside of the empire. As for tools I used to create this piece, it’s done completely in Photoshop using stock imagery and digital brush work. This is my favorite medium since it pulls both of my favorite art forms: photography and painting! I began this piece in 2018 as an acrylic painting and reworked it in 2023 as a photographic composite.
    uniE621 Through the Storm
This is a poster that was created in 2022 for a local dance studio for their spring showcase. Their theme was “overcoming” after a hard year dealing with the pandemic. I took a photograph of the dancers outside of their studio and used that to place into a composited scene. The goal of the image was to show them overcoming difficulties as a team, holding up their fellow dancer as she tips toward the edge of the cliff. I then treated the typography to showcase the storm through the text, mimicking the message of “through the storm”. In addition to this poster, I also created a video that was presented at the beginning of the showcase and an illustrated version of the graphic that was printed on merchandise for the dancers.
    uniE621 Repulsion
This was an illustration I created back in 2017 as a passion project. Roman Polanski’s repulsion is a 60’s horror film about a woman who has a pathological fear of interacting with men. It mainly follows her point of view primarily in her apartment as she progressively drives herself mad thinking people are attempting to break into her apartment. I fell in love with the bizarre nature of the film and decided to create an homage to its unique filmmaking with eery elements and a typographic nod to 60’s design. This was illustrated in photoshop. graphicdesigner illustrator designer
    uniE621 Petals of Love
A self-driven project I made a month ago. I knew I wanted to push myself into other genres of storytelling and decided I was missing lighthearted rom com designs in my portfolio. I wanted really bold contrasting colors to pull the readers attention. This was created with stock imagery, painted shadows, stock texture and illustrative flourishes to customize the font. graphicdesigner designer
    uniE621 Jungle Book
This illustration is busy like the dense jungle with vignette leading the viewers eye to where Mowgli sits at the center. I chose a playful font reminiscent of children’s literature to finalize the piece. Completed in photoshop.
    uniE621 The Enchanted Atelier
This project was inspired by a chapter I read in the book “Her Body and Other Parties” by my favorite author, Carmen Maria Machado. I pictured it immediately as a movie poster for an adaptation of this short story. I started with stock photography to build the scene, then I photographed elements to add to the story and composited those together to complete the scene. The biggest challenge in this project was the dramatic lighting, which I accomplished with many photoshop layers! graphicdesigner photo
    uniE621 Dracula
Dracula was a passion project where I wanted to play with type-specific design work. The classic story gives the reader a sense of unease and fear so I knew I wanted the type design to reflect that. I decided to intentionally leave little breathing room in the composition to communicate claustrophobia and discomfort. I also wanted to incorporate blood somewhere and the vertical line from the ‘A’ felt like a subtle enough places to do that. This was created in Photoshop. graphicdesigner designer illustrator
    uniE621 Digital Roots
This illustration was painted in gouache then finalized in photoshop in 2015 for a private commission fine art piece. The direction was open ended as long as it represented a visual contrast of modern technology and nature. It was originally illustrated as a stand alone fine art piece so there wasn’t a lot of room for type. I decided it would be fun to re-work this piece as a non-fiction book cover relating to separation of our digital age and our natural environment and I created a fake scientist author name who may have written this book. I pushed the robot figure back in space to allow breathing room for the title and author name.
    uniE621 Michael Kiwanuka Album
I illustrated this in photoshop during the pandemic as a passion project. I wanted to expand my portfolio with portrait specific work. At the time I was in love with the passionate and heart wrenching voice of Michael Kiwanuka. This illustration originally didn’t have type and I wanted to further complete it as a vinyl cover design so I re-worked the composition a bit to allow space. Google fonts had a nice multi-line typeface that mimicked the line work and I further drew extending lines for a more fun, playful design. -Brooke
    uniE621 Alice in Wonderland
This was another self-driven portfolio piece. The goal was to further combine photoshop compositing and illustrative skillsets where the real world takes up most of the image and the illustrative wonderland is peaking out through the door. After a bit of trial and error I landed on a simpler illustration design so that it would still be readable in a smaller space and I leaned into a paper-cut out illustration style. The type is a handwritten google font with some added flourish to communicate the fantastical nature of the story. All components were created in photoshop. photo graphicdesigner designer illustrator
