The Golden Hop is a new micro-brewery specialising in golden IPA’s. The brewers behind The Golden Hop were after a brand that reflected it’s roots, they wanted a brand that was a modern twist on the classic English pub.
Knowing that The Golden Hop wanted to stray away from designs that are common with micro-breweries, like Hop heavy designs or loud, alternative designs. I looked into English pub traditions, the main one being illustrations that reflect the pubs names. These illustrations describe the tone of the pub, whether they are the super traditional local or the modern chain pubs. What I wanted to focus on was the more traditional, gastro pub energy that uses play on words from within the pub name.
When I think of “hops” I automatically go to the action and then to rabbits or hares. For some reasons hares stuck out to me more than rabbits, so I looked further into hare imagery and traditionally they are fine line drawings. Whilst these fine drawings would work with a luxury or traditional pub, I didn’t feel like it would work with a microbrewery. After playing with a few different design styles, I chose the solid silhouette design as I liked how it showed all the detailed features of the hare in a simple form.
When I looked into the typography for pubs, I found that they tend to stick to the same styles, which was again more illustrative than what you would expect. I chose the Brewski font as I liked that illustrative glyphs combined with the modern sans-serif style but also enjoyed the roughness of the font, that I felt reflected the nature of being a microbrewery, touch and hardworking. I changed a few parts of the font design so that it flowed to gether better and could be adapted into multiple designs for use.
I love colour palette chosen for this project, the gold links in with the colour of IPA’s and with various equipments used in a brewery and pub. When creating the palette I felt that it was important that all aspects reflected something with in pub environment, you had to be able to walk into the pub and see each colour used differently within the pub.
I really love how this project came together, the design reflects the modern attitude of the English pub and wouldn’t look out of place down the high street.
My branding design for The Golden Hop as opened up their business to new markets, the aim of the project was to make it an adaptable design to attract multiple demographics. The solution I came up with allows the design work for each area of their business. logo graphicdesigner branding designer…The Golden Hop is a new micro-brewery specialising in golden IPA’s.
