Composer and musician Camille De Beus has had work premiered by the Mivos Quartet, played at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and by Birmingham Contemporary Music Group. She has scored a few short films and helped score a soon-to-be-released feature film—a documentary about a North Korean school near London. Her scores have been screened at Film Maudit 2.0 and the Birmingham Film Festival. De Beus also served as a fellow with bespoken, a mentorship program for women in music. She has performed internationally – including at The Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust (LAMOTH), The Rudolfinum (Prague), The Notre Dame (Paris), and The MuTH (Vienna). Her artistic practice is especially influenced by the relationship between music and other art forms, and sonically capturing the impact these disciplines have on each other. She is also interested in the way this manifests in collaborative work across a variety of disciplines and how these practices and experiences can shape an artist’s solo work. As a composer, she has explored works that play with music and movement, music and creative writing (outside of a songwriting context), music and film/visuals, and has also created pieces that utilize multiple mediums simultaneously. In addition to playing original music works and improvisational pieces, she collaborates with live poets/spoken-word artists and movement. She also has an ongoing electronic music collaboration with Brooklyn-based artist Ryan Casey (Samples From Mars, Kodacrome). In addition to composing and performing, De Beus has volunteered for music non-profits, as a musical coach for The Harmony Project’s orchestra and teaching a composition program through From the Roots Community Interest Program in Birmingham, UK.
