Since the early days of the dot com boom of the 1990s, I've been working with all manner of cutting edge technologies, helping companies from start-ups to global brands tell their story to the press. Starting with clients putting up web sites (which believe it or not, once upon a time generated news) and moving on to e-commerce and web advertising. The 90s were a great time to learn the craft of tech public relations. The industry itself was changing, moving from mail and faxes to email and discovering other ways to use this new technology called the Internet. After the dot com crash, I moved into more B2B technologies. In the late 90s / early 2000s it was enterprise software. Then blogging and Web 2.0 came along and I found myself pitching and interacting with bloggers and became somewhat of an expert on this new creature. I was pitching clients to Robert Scoble and TechCrunch (back then, a one person operation) and participating in conferences like Supernova, Web 2.0 and SXSW, talking about how blogging was changing PR. At that point I realized that the agency I worked for had no interest in the new way of doing media outreach so I struck out on my own. I worked with a whole host of Web 2.0 companies but also moved back into B2B technologies. Currently I work with companies in AI, Web3, blockchain, cybersecurity, devops, cloud computing and networking, and related technologies. Most of my work is done as a contractor to PR agencies where I act as an account director but I also handle clients on my own. I handle all aspects of a PR program, from strategic planning to message development, media outreach, content creation, analyst relations, news-jacking, and in some cases staff development. On behalf of clients I've secured coverage in publications like The Wall Street Journal, CNBC, TechCrunch, VentureBeat, Business Insider and other tech and business publications. I've also taken clients through funding rounds. I'm based about an hour north of New York City but I'm available to work with clients throughout the world. My rate is $120 an hour or I can negotiate a flat monthly fee.
