Declan Molloy (2000- ) is a composer of pieces with bold and colourful narratives. By studying music at Oxford and the Royal Academy of Music, he has explored influences ranging from Claude Debussy to Frank Zappa and collaborated with performers and ensembles to bring his ideas to life. He has worked on original music with the Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra, CHROMA, Asteria Trio, Hill Quartet, Regency Duo, and Contemporary Music for All (CoMA), as well as numerous solo performers including Declan Hickey and Lizzie Knatt. One of his recent collaborations was with the Riot Ensemble, in which he composed a graphic-score piece called ‘Intertwine’ for October House Records’ album Ways of Watching. Declan’s time as a composer also includes assistant work and orchestration on musical theatre productions - such as Felix Westcott’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival musical Dead Man’s Suitcase - as well as running his own projects. He has worked on curating various contemporary music events, including a film music concert Written on Screen in July 2023, for which he recruited a team of animators from the Royal College of Art. The success of this sold-out event resulted in a commission for Declan to produce a showcase of his music with CityMusic Promotions, and one of the films he scored (Alex Gwyn Davies’ A Perfect Morning Situation) was selected for a screening at the Slamdance Film Festival in Utah. Following his achievement of a DipRAM in composition at the Royal Academy of Music, Declan has moved back to Oxford to continue collaborating with musicians and stage writers from his university days, pursing work running musical events on the side. Recent performances include a premiere at Wigmore Hall featuring London Central Brass.
