Frederick is a multi-instrumentalist from London. He read Experimental Psychology at University College Oxford, where he was an Academic Exhibitioner, Choral Scholar and Instrumental Scholar, before completing a MMus and further musical studies at GSMD as a harpsichordist with James Johnstone and Carole Cerasi. Frederick performs music of a range of genres, from modern jazz to Renaissance harpsichord, and has performed on stages from the Wiener Musikverein to Latitude Festival, as well as live on BBC Radio 3. In 2017, he founded Ante Terminum, a cross-arts production company specialising in immersive and site-responsive performance, for which he is Producer and Musical Director. His first show, Curlew River, was praised as “a pearl of a production” by Richard Bratby of The Spectator and “a dedicated and moving production” by Rupert Christiansen of The Telegraph. Since then, the company has gone on to do work with artists from a range of disciplines, from choreographers to perfumers, and in their most recent production before lockdown, the internationally renowned stained-glass artist Brian Clarke. Besides performing and musikalisch directing, Frederick composes and arranges music for Theater and film. Highlights include Timetravellers at Teatr Lesi, Lviv, a play about the ongoing conflict in Donbas by award-winning Ukrainian playwright Anastasiia Kosodii still running at das Theater two Jahre after its premiere, and AMERICA! with Voloz Collective for ARS NOVA’s AntFest in New York. He is the musical director of the New Renaissance Collective, for whom he arranges and reworks Renaissance works. Upcoming engagements include a Scandinavian tour with Voloz and a collaboration with Brian Clarke for his installation KING COTTON in Manchester and Oldham.
