Hi! My name is Gaba Wright, an Australian composer specializing in media composition, songwriting, arranging, orchestration, and production. Having begun songwriting, composition, and arrangement from an early age, I am continuing to develop and expand my sound through wide pool of varying projects, live ensembles, and sonic mediums.
My sound is an expansive, multi-layered combination of influences and soundscapes. I have had an exponentially increasing line-up of opportunities and accolades, including composing for an array of NSW Health Promotional videos (2022), writing music for The University of Sydney’s advertising campaign (2021), working with MADBS Composing Palace on arrangements for performances at the State Theatre earlier in 2020/2021, composing and conducting music for Shakespeare’s ‘The Tempest’ for International Grammar School’s original production (2019), and more.
I have also received accolades for a large-scale choral/loopstation work ‘INNERMIND’ composed in 2021, ‘Night Waves’ and ‘Why Do I Get Up?’ (2018), as well as having composed works for ensemble players at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music (Gone, Gone Again, [2018], Weekdays [2020], and Nightbus to Nowhere [2021]).
Initially a songwriter, I have also written and released two studio albums and a handful of singles. Debut solo endeavor Afterhours (2019) began my journey and was met with success; spawning interviews with Happy Mag, Girl At the Rock Show, and multiple radio appearances. I have also recently released a new single, Can There Be Such Thing as Silence?, promoting a new album that is set to be released early in 2023.
I am also a pianist/keyboardist, saxophonist, vocalist and percussionist. I am currently studying guitar, electric bass, and piano accordion with the goal of becoming a self-sufficient, autonomous musician able both to record and/or perform all elements of my songs and productions. Hoping to be known for consistency and reliability, I am focused on maintaining chameleonic diversity while also establishing a recognisable, individual sound.
In 2021, I graduated from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with a Bachelor of Music in Creative Industries. I have also recently re-scored Seth Boyden’s renowned animation An Object At Rest, as well as the Blender Foundation’s Elephant’s Dream and Cosmos Laundromat. Furthermore, I have recently written music for the Melbourne-based game development team The Skeleton Gang’s new project, Lair of the Narcomancer. My original music from Afterhours is also set to appear in Jaimie Conlon’s upcoming film Jellybean.
