My name is José Manuel Mondragón Cruz, and I am a specialist in musical and interactive technologies with over 20 years of experience in sound production, multimedia systems, and educational innovation. My professional journey has been defined by a deep passion for merging music and technology to create impactful and collaborative artistic and educational experiences.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Music Composition and a Master’s degree in Musical Technology from UNAM, where I specialized in augmented musical collaboration systems. My academic focus has consistently integrated sound art, human-computer interaction, and the development of interactive systems for music creation and education.
Currently, I lead the music and sound production unit at CUAIEED UNAM, creating content for educational TV programs and multimedia projects. Since 2014, I have also directed Gravedad Cero Labs, a lab dedicated to developing interactive audio technologies, including synthesizers and audio plugins using JUCE and VST3 frameworks.
I have collaborated on research and development projects with institutions such as CCADET-UNAM, focusing on musical interaction and sound design for multimedia environments, and with the Mexican National Sound Library, where I contributed to “Ecosónico,” an interactive sound installation highlighting Mexico’s sound biodiversity.
As an educator, I have taught at renowned institutions like the Escuela Superior de Música (INBAL), National Conservatory of Music, Universidad Anáhuac, and Universidad del Claustro de Sor Juana. I specialize in teaching computer-assisted composition, sound synthesis, multimedia programming, and user experience design. I also mentor students in the integration of technology into music production and creative projects.
In terms of innovation, I have led the development of projects such as “COMA,” an augmented reality system for collaborative music creation; “Granular Reson,” a granular synthesizer with resonant filters; and “G0pi,” a suite of professional audio plugins. I have also contributed to “Nuestro Patrimonio Interactivo Multimedia,” a UNESCO-supported educational software.
I have presented my work at international and national forums such as CMMR (France), UbiMus (Brazil), and Visiones Sonoras (Mexico), and published more than 15 peer-reviewed papers on topics such as algorithmic composition and interactive learning environments. My articles have also appeared in cultural magazines like “Pauta” and “Replicante.”
I am certified in ProTools (101, 110, 201, 210) and proficient in audio production platforms like Cubase, Reason, and JUCE. My technical skills include advanced C++ programming, DSP (digital signal processing), and the creation of interactive musical environments.
My mission is to develop innovative tools that foster creativity, collaboration, and accessibility in music education and sound art, bridging the gap between research, technology, and artistic expression.
