London Watterson is a visual artist and student, based in San Antonio, Texas. Their work largely consists of multi-media paintings and digital art that focuses on themes related to nature, identity, emotion, and conformity. A Coloradon raised in Saudi Arabia, London enjoys learning about how larger social structures and cultural norms influence art.
As a Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Student, London’s work is actively influenced by queer, feminist cultural production.
Watterson hopes to use their art as a way to highlight queer voices and experiences. One way they achieve this is through the creation of collaborative zines which seek to analyze society from a more critical lens. Their first issue “Exploring Identity Through Art” is featured in Austin’s Sherwood Forest Zine Library, as well as in San Antonio Public Library’s non-circulating zine collection.
Watterson enjoys collaborating with fellow creatives to bring ideas to life. Recently, London designed cover art and illustrations for Ireland Robinson’s short film “Ladies Love Salads”. Since then, Watterson has been given the opportunity to help other film makers and musicians in creating visual art for their works.
Aside from collaborative pieces, London often uses art as an outlet to express their own thoughts and feelings. Experimenting with the colors and textures brought about by different mediums is a way for Watterson to communicate visually and break free of internal barriers.
