Since co-founding his band The Shadowboxers in 2008, Matt cut his teeth with the Indigo Girls (as an opener and touring band member) for two years, including a joint co-headline tour with Joan Baez. Here he was able to absorb knowledge and expand his vocabulary as a lover of traditional songwriting. After a viral YouTube cover caught the attention of Justin Timberlake, his band moved to Nashville to pivot towards radio-friendly pop and began co-writing heavily for a future co-production with Timberlake himself. Writing with the likes of Trent Dabbs, Daniel Tashian, Jesse Frasure, Heather Morris, Gabe Simon, Jamie Lidell, and Jimmy Robbins, The Shadowboxers quickly entrenched themselves in the writing community (and eventually landed a Thomas Rhett cut alongside Chris DeStefano and Josh Osbourne with "Tangled). The band released their “Apollo EP” co-produced by Timberlake and opened for him on his “Man of The Woods Tour” in 2018. In 2019, the group moved to LA and became independent to redirect their focus again on a self-produced, harmony driven album. While the band looks forward to touring in the near future, Matt has focused on his own writing for sync, solo projects, and other artists. He loves experimental, rule-breaking, outside the box thinking and sonic creation as much as he enjoys focused, structured songwriting.
