Composer and bassplayer Mark Hendry has been carving a path in the Scottish music scene since 2018. He gained attention with his debut release Esperance. Mark expanded on Esperance with two suites for small orchestra and jazz ensemble The Endangered Species Suite, based on 5 endangered and vulnerable animals and Nineteen Eighty-Four, a tone poem based on the Orwell novel commissioned by Edinburgh Jazz Festival. Since then he has explored the nexus between jazz and classical music through his band fractus (EP released summer 2023). Mark has composed for film including award winning stop motion short I Miss Hugs (Ana Songel, 2021). Since studying film scoring at Berklee College of Music, Mark has arranged music for Fergus McCreadie and the renowned chamber group MrMcfall’s string quartet. As a bassplayer Mark has recorded and performed with the likes of corto.alto and Graham Costello’s STRATA.
