Hello! My name is Michael Herzing, a Nashville based composer, orchestrator and arranger. I am a graduate of Belmont University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music, with an emphasis in Music Composition. I am hardworking, organized, and detail oriented, with a passion for film and video game scoring. I have influences ranging from John Williams, Akira Senju, and Howard Shore, to Tchaikovsky, Wagner, and Stravinsky. Since I have started composing, I have written music for film, video-game mock-ups, live performances, and for use in studio recordings. I have written in a wide variety of instrumentations; solo piano, string quartet, rock band, choir, and full orchestra. As an orchestrator and arranger, I have in-depth experience in multiple notation software, arranged music for professional use as well as transcribed full orchestral soundtracks for personal study. I also have experience as a performer in a wide range of settings and styles, playing everything from viola to piano to guitar to accordion. I have played in orchestras, string quartets, piano quintets, worship bands, and in recording studios. Finally, I have extensive experience inside DAWs, both as a composer and an audio engineer. Over the course of the past 4 years, I have recorded piano, saxophone, string quartet and rock band, for both personal and professional use.

    uniE613 Austin Wintory Composition Contest
This is my entry for Austin Wintory's Composer Contest. I was given a string of 12 notes and I had 3 weeks to make music based off of it- with this one, I decided to challenge myself. Any instrument that could realistically be played by me, was. That is- accordion, guitar, piano, and bass. I got some of my friends to play violin and saxophone. That meant I also had to mix it, which is something I am new to. An additional challenge was the amount of music. When I drafted ideas on what I could do with this prompt, I decided to do all of them, resulting in 13 minutes of music. My personal favorites are tracks 2 and 3. I went the route of making a series of theme for an Ace Attorney character. Edit: Both YouTube and my editing software have conspired to make my video as low-quality as possible, both in audio and visual. The music and art I uploaded look and sound a lot better, trust me. Rielen Tenz- Adult Child Prodigy 0:00 Therer are a lot of 'child prodigies' in the Ace Attorney series, so I made my character a child prodigy 10 years into the future. Detectice Tenz is 25, and has been a detective ever since he was 15. He is extremely talented and completely burnt out, to the point where he has grey hairs, does not take care of himself, and constantly has to wear sunglasses to cover up the bags under his eyes. He's brilliant, but his exhaustion is to the point to where he'll sometimes present evidence for the wrong case. The Detective Deduces 3:08 Detective Tenz is still a prodigy, and is a formidable instrument of justice. He has devoted his life to solving crimes, to the point where he doesn't have much else going on. To deal with burnout from solving crimes, he solves more crimes. Rielen in Love 5:20 Rielen has now found a girl who forces him to slow down and take care of himself. A strict independent, Rielen is unused to having someone to rely on, and quite likes the feeling. 4.The Detective Reaches a Better Place in Life 8:23 Detective Rielen now, beacuse of his outside influences, has a better outlook on his work. He's gotten a lot of rest, and now is much healthier and happier than he was before. Bonus- Rielen Tenz- A Robot Apparently? 10:39 This one is just something silly. I never get a chance to work with synths, so I decided to make one where Rielen is secretly a robot. It doesn't matter. Bonus- Mom's Ringtone 13:06 This one sounds like a ringtone. Big thanks to Zeke Meyer, Rocco Grecco, and Luke Melamede for playing for me, and Austin Wintory for putting on this challange. https://youtu.be/VlEOEPDhF4I

    uniE613 Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood Transcription
I transcribed Akira Senju's 3-hour orchestral score for the Anime 'Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood' (2009.) I put in the format of an orchestral reduction and used it as a score study.

    I created a mock-up for a rescore I did for an old game called Medabots (2002). https://youtu.be/jm94gUEXTmY
