CNN: Temporary Associate Photo Editor

Image Editor is needed in New York, United States.

For the CNN Visuals photo department in Atlanta or New York, CNN Digital is looking for a temporary Associate Photo Editor.

Responsibilities

The team has the option to extend this role’s three-month assignment if they so want.

You will assist the Photo Desk in conducting research for and creating ongoing projects for CNN Digital.

For CNN stories, the homepage, and live coverage of breaking news and events, you will help choose the finest photographs.

For breaking news and feature pieces, you will help with the research and aid in creating photo essays and galleries.

You will be able to create packages for online consumption, including headlines and captions for picture essays and galleries.

You will be able to take screen captures from real-time satellite feeds and create photo loops and splits.

You will assist with quality control on graphic or objectionable photographs, particularly those that are provided by third parties and necessitate extensive review and discussion.

You will collaborate with CNN’s Rights and Clearances team to make sure that photos from outside sources have the appropriate licensing.

Experience

1-2 years of newsroom photo editing experience

Strong background in news, with knowledge of many topics, such as politics, business, foreign news, entertainment, and sports.

Ability to work in a fast-paced news environment and sound news judgement.

Experience working for a news photo agency or a digital news site is preferred.

Preferable knowledge of international picture agencies and established and up-and-coming photographers

Interest in the trends of the photojournalism sector.

Knowledge of content management systems, Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, and PhotoMechanic.

A significant benefit is having experience with Adobe Premier and Illustrator.

An added benefit is having knowledge of web analytics and SEO.
