Contract: Short Term Contract/Project Based

Responsibilities:

This position requires an enthusiastic individual, passionate about bringing the musical community in South Orange County to life!

Must have availability Tuesday and Saturday evenings for the entire month of July for rehearsals, as well as flexibility to an end of season concert date at the end of the month.

We are a full orchestra made up of ~50 musicians, some of which are retired professionals in the industry, others who are music students just beginning their college careers, and members of the community who simply utilize this space as a way to maintain music in their everyday lives. OCCSO has existed as a nonprofit organization since 2021, with annual performances in Orange County to audiences of 200+.

This position has previously been held by seasoned professionals in the field, as well as recent university graduates with a wealth of professional, hands-on experience.

Qualifications:

• Ability to adjust directing dependent on the needs of the individual members of the ensemble.
• Must have experience conducting large symphonic ensembles and knowledge of various musical cultures in order to align with our vision of uplifting the works of underrepresented composers.
• Must be able to cooperate effectively and passionately with the OCCSO board in order to collaborate on finding appropriate repertoire and scheduling efficient rehearsals.
• We are particularly interested in individuals who bring their own creativity and ideas to the table.
• Applicants are expected to submit sample tapes of previous conducting through the hiring process.
• A video recording from the last two OCCSO concert seasons are available upon request in order for you, as the applicant, to get a better idea of the ensemble and decide whether you might make a good fit for our organization.
