YouTube Editor for Raw Documentary Vlogs (English + Spanish)

Videographer is needed in Mexico City, Mexico.

I am a YouTuber and I have what I call a “documentary vlog” channel. I am struggling to produce videos consistently alone and I would like to spend more time filming and less editing. So I am looking for an editor on the long term to edit all my videos, so I can focus on filming and my own clients. I also hope to find someone who’s better than me at editing to output better videos.

My ultimate priority at the moment is the core, raw edit of the videos. The edited videos are actually fairy simple and the timeline is usually on a single track. So I am looking for someone to make the storytelling part of my raw vlog videos, which means only thinking about what to keep and what to leave out just the way I think. So it requires an understanding of my editorial line and my message, and selection, selection, selection.

Concretely, it’s about receiving raw footage, usually of a single camera, and reducing by dividing the duration by about 6. So for example a typical 2 hours of footage will be reduced into a 20 minutes video. The challenge is to have the right moments kept to get not only the best, but the right story.

My videos are mostly unscripted and rely heavily on chance through encounters of strangers as I travel. So the “writing of the story” happens while editing. But I will always provide a brief on what I hope to achieve on each video.

Not looking for any “effects”, no need for music, text, intros as I don’t need any over-technical skills, but more journalistic competencies. It’s about taking the footage, understanding how I choose what to keep and what not to keep, and making the short documentary vlog story.

I need someone who speaks Spanish (required), and if they are from Mexico City, even better so we could meet in person on this beautiful long terms project, which would help a lot when it comes to understanding the vision and editorial line.
