Job Description

The Story Studio Book Designer will join our enthusiastic and highly-organized team on a freelance basis. As part of the Story Studio team, you will create story assets for our in-house production processes, design polished picture-book layouts, and collaborate with our award-winning illustrators on new concepts. We are seeking a detail-oriented individual who is proficient in layer comps, blending modes, bezier curves, marquee selection, and bitmap manipulation. Working both independently and as part of a team, you will support the Art Director, assist in new book development, and create Photoshop files for Wonderbly’s workflow. Experience in book design is desired, and a passion for storytelling and books is a must.

Responsibilities

• Design beautiful picture book covers and spreads in collaboration with Art Directors and Producers
• Create creative assets for book production, website use, and photo shoots
• Participate in new book and product workshops, including cover concepting and page layouts
• Be flexible with working hours and adapt to the needs of the job
• Utilize Adobe CC suite, primarily Photoshop and InDesign, on a daily basis

Requirements

• Design background, not illustration-focused
• Own a laptop and have a subscription to Adobe CC
• Exceptional attention to detail, consistency, and a keen eye for layout, typography, illustration, graphic design, and storytelling
• Strong artworking skills to uphold Wonderbly’s design standards
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
• Meticulous in file organization
• Ability to receive feedback and incorporate it into design work
• Proficiency in Adobe CC suite
• Prior experience in a publisher, design agency, or communications agency is preferred, but not required
