Summary

The Youth Theatre Choreography Director is responsible for choreographing dance routines in the current and upcoming productions. The Youth Theatre Choreography Director is familiar with different styles of dance and has the ability to create dance numbers appropriate to the production. The Youth Theatre Choreography Director will work with and instruct participants in grades 3-12.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must have experience in theatre and choreography.
• Must have experience working with children of assigned age groups.
• Must be available to work evenings and weekends.
• Ability to plan and lead recreation and activities for children at assigned age level.
• CPR and First Aid certified (if not, must be willing to be certified through the Park District within two weeks of hire.) Certification must be from an accredited agency.
• Attend Champaign Park District bloodborne pathogen training within two weeks of hire.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Park District staff and the general public.
• Ability to teach and choreograph the style of dance and movement required by each individual show.
• Experience/knowledge of a variety of cultural dance a plus

Essential Functions

• Plan, organize and implement the choreography and movement of the production for the Youth Theatre Program as assigned by the Youth Theatre Program Director.
• Attend a production meeting with the Youth Theatre Program Director and Producer before the start of each production and meet on a weekly basis with the Youth Theatre Program Director and Producer.
• Responsible for overall artistic interpretation of staging the choreography and movement.
• Train and supervise volunteers assigned or selected to assist with the choreography production.
• Maintain good public relations with participants, parents, other staff members, and the general public.
• Assist in the promotion of each production by doing live TV or Sports Radio.
• Maintain the program environment in a clean and orderly fashion.
• Maintain a safe and secure environment for participants.
• Responsible for maintaining an open line of communication with the Youth Theatre regarding all situations concerning the program, participants, and staff.
• Communicate effectively with staff, participants, and parents.
• Responsible for following all Park District policies and procedures.
• Attend all required meetings.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Responsible for safe and well-organized programs.
• Must be able to respond to problem situations in a mature manner and within the policies and procedures of the Champaign Park District.

Physiological Considerations

• The Youth Theatre Choreographer may need to respond quickly and accurately.
• Must be able to be physically active to lead activities and rehearsals.
• Must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed

Environmental Considerations

• May be exposed to all weather conditions including rain, wind, snow extreme temperatures, etc.

• Must be willing and able to improve skills and skill areas
• Must be able to assess situations and develop solutions to problems
• Must be able to exercise independent judgment and possess good safety awareness
