POSITION OVERVIEW

The Game Development Educator develops, executes, and teaches Game Development based curriculum at Square Root Academy. This position is filled by a creative, adaptable, organized, and skilled individual who is proficient at Game Development fundamentals and is inspired to lead programs that empower all youth (our Scholars). This person serves closely with Education team members and is vital for Scholar success.

Headlines of this role:

  • They ensure a quality Game Development Education program by curriculum building and implementation, classroom facilitation, and professional learning
  • They skillfully facilitate meaningful, engaging, and active learning of our Scholars, helping them to harness their own creativity.

Compensation:

$16,200 Yearly Living Allowance (~$1,350/Month) + $3,697.50 Educational Award (upon completion of service)

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Our adaptable, mission-oriented S.T.E.A.M. Educators in Game Development engage in various specific tasks to support their work.

  • Teach courses (virtually or on-site) to Scholars in the realm of Game Development, rigorously promoting Scholar growth and empowerment
  • Establish and maintain personal contact and relationships with site partners
  • Verify lessons meet Academy standards prior to teaching date.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians specific site news and specific scholar news
  • Ensure proper worksheets, quizzes etc. are printed prior to class
  • Complete each lesson for quality assurance in collaboration with the Curriculum Design Specialist
  • Complete weekly reports on program attendance and overall success
  • Promote productive learning environments where Scholars respect peers and adults, continually grow, are safe, and build relationships
  • Learn continually through professional development workshops to expand their skills in: all STEAM content, project-based learning, equity, and Socio-Emotional Learning (SEL)
  • Lead and participate in collaborations, trainings, and weekly meetings, both in person and virtually
  • Manage record keeping for our internal use, as well as our partners, and act as a professional liaison to partner sites
  • Know Scholars as individuals, building mentor relationships with them, and connecting them with additional learning opportunities
  • Represent Team #SquareRoot through professionalism and pride at various interactions, conferences, and events
  • Embody and promote the Square Root Academy’s STEAM and equity-driven culture and values.
  • On The Role Training is available for role-specific duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certification: Our educators take pride in their commitment to STEAM learning;
  • Experience and/or education in Video game design required
  • Minimum of high school diploma or GED Certificate
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Hold US Citizenship or Permanent Resident Status
  • Have not completed more than three (3) prior AmeriCorps or VISTA service terms
  • Understand that this position is an AmeriCorps service commitment and are dedicated to national and community service
  • Dedicated to successfully completing a full term of service
  • Upon Employment, will pass statutory checks with the Department of Justice, medical clearance (such as TB tests)
  • Communicate professionally and effectively, through writing, speaking, and presenting
  • Have a team-oriented mindset and demonstrate the flexibility needed in a community-based non-profit
  • Reliable transportation: Our Scholar Mentors commute to local-area sites, or work virtually, dependent on the current needs of the program.
