Purpose of Role

The new Creative Producer (International) position will play a key role within Liverpool Arab Arts Festival’s creative team. This is a great opportunity for an experienced creative producer to develop LAAF’s international artistic programming. The postholder will be responsible for the successful development, planning, and delivery of an agreed portfolio of artistic projects, for both festival and out of festival programmes. These internationally focused outcomes will help successfully deliver LAAF’s ambitious artistic vision and organisational targets and objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Artistic:

  • Work closely with the Head of Programming / Deputy Director and Creative Producer to strategically plan, organise and deliver LAAF’s festival and out of festival programmes. This role will focus on developing our international programming.
  • Lead and project manage a portfolio of agreed artistic projects throughout project lifecycles, from initial planning through to reporting and evaluation.
  • Creatively explore, develop and test artistic project ideas that are innovative, ambitious and representative of Arab cultures.
  • Negotiate artist fees and contracts, including the effective and efficient management of artist advancing, to deliver projects within agreed budget and perimeters.
  • Become informed of, and support delivery of LAAF’s Business Plan and core targets, including those for Arts Council England, Liverpool City Council and other key stakeholders.
  • Conduct research trips within the UK and internationally to scope potential performances and commissioning opportunities, and to deliver touring work as appropriate.
  • Compile event copy for projects, providing information and supporting publicity for related events where appropriate.

Administrative:

  • To engage in regular one-to-one meetings and annual appraisal with line manager.
  • Provide progress reports for quarterly board meetings, one-to-one meetings, and funder reports within the agreed timeframes.
  • Actively use, contribute to, and update designated digital co-working documents to support team working.
  • Work as part of the team and individually to champion and raise the profile of LAAF, events, and activities. This includes actively contributing to ongoing social media and marketing activities throughout the year to the agreed level.

Financial:

  • Ensuring all projects operate and are delivered within agreed budget parameters.
  • To work within LAAF’s agreed finance and accountancy procedures.
  • To assist with LAAF’s fundraising activities by identifying artistic funding opportunities, working with the Director and Head of Programming / Deputy Director to develop funding proposals.

Relationship Management:

  • Managing projects and partnerships in person, virtually, and across timezones.
  • Broker partnerships and actively identifying and applying for funding and travel grants to support the artists’ engagement in the UK.
  • To establish strategic partnerships that increase LAAF’s international scope.
  • To build relationships with a range of programme partners, including artists, curators, cultural organisations, funders, community groups, and other stakeholders.

Other:

  • Ensure LAAF is compliant by implementing policy, procedures, and legislation including relevant licensing and risk assessments.
  • Ensure audience development, equal opportunities, and environmental targets are applied in practice and reported against within the organisation and funder timelines.
  • Participate in LAAF skills share days, staff and board away days. Attend training and development relevant to the role and responsibilities (this includes statutory training).
  • Contribute to informing and developing policy and procedures and compliance with LAAF policy and procedures.
  • Ensuring the confidentiality of organisational information at all times.
  • Undertake any duties as reasonably requested that are relevant to the post or achieving its objectives.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

Skills

  • A genuine and demonstrable commitment to maintaining the broadening of cultural diversity and access to, and across, LAAF’s artistic programme.
  • A starter and finisher with outstanding attention to detail.
  • An enthusiastic, energetic, and proactive team player with the drive to make things happen.
  • Strong financial skills including drafting and managing budgets.
  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills.
  • Experience of contract negotiation with agents, partners, and artists and a good working knowledge of contract management.
  • Excellent organisation and planning skills with proven ability to work flexibly under pressure.
  • Able to prioritise to meet deadlines.

Knowledge

  • Experienced in artistic project management and delivery.
  • An understanding of contemporary Arab arts and culture in the UK and internationally.
  • An affinity for the mission, vision, and work of LAAF, and a passion to play a key role in its success.
  • Strong understanding of collaborative creative working processes, including digital and remote team working.
  • Knowledge/experience of national and international touring.
  • Desirable speaking, reading, and writing skills in Arabic.

Experience

  • Extensive experience in planning, managing, and delivering cultural activity within an arts and culture setting.
  • Significant knowledge and experience of Arab arts and cultures within the UK and internationally.
  • Proven experience of collaborating with artists and creative teams, and project managing cultural projects within this context.
  • Experience of generating funds to finance commissions, co-productions, international travel grants, and development funds.
  • Evidence of successful partnership working.
  • A commitment and desire to travel within the UK and internationally, including across the Arab region.
