Location: Olympia, United States

Contract: Part Time

Essential Functions

  • Works independently and cooperatively with the strategic communications and visual design team to perform support tasks related to organization and coordination of team processes, assignments, deadlines, fiscal processes, contracts and workload management.
  • Creates or assists with the development of a wide range of communications materials that may include graphic design for print and digital products, copywriting internal and external content, designing PowerPoint presentations, coordinating printing services or internal communications.
  • Translates staff needs into design and communications products within an established brand identity and city editorial style guide, ensuring they are high-quality and error-free.
  • Works in Adobe Creative Cloud and Canva software to apply content to create new designs and use pre-existing graphic design templates. Obtains input from other City designers to ensure organizational standards and brand expectations are met.
  • Produces simple photography and videos using professional cameras and editing software.
  • Takes basic photos and videos, edits and updates and maintains internal databases for designs, photography, and video (including uploading project materials) using established content management systems based on best practices.
  • Researches and manages supply and print product procurement processes.
  • Uses and examines existing team processes, identifies flaws and creates solutions that improve efficiency.

Typical Qualifications

  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Skills creating exceptionally creative and innovative designs.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Required Education/Experience/Skills:
  • 1-3 years professional experience as a graphic designer using Adobe Creative Cloud apps, specifically Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop and Lightroom.
  • Basic photography and video production experience and editing.
  • Process and database management/analysis experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • AA or Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in graphic design, art or related discipline.
  • Photography and videography experience and proficiency with video and photo-editing software.
  • Highly computer literate with capability in email, MS Office and related business and communication tools.
  • Experience using Canva.
  • Proofreading, editing and writing experience and competency.
  • Specialized cultural competence and/or a desire to work in consideration of multiple cultures or communities.

Compensation (minimum-maximum):

$29.84 - $36.26
