The Scenic Designer of the Fall Drama & Spring Musical

The Scenic Designer is a deputy of the Fine Arts Director assigned to the Fall Drama and Spring Musical; as the primary force for immersing the audience and actors in the world of the characters, the Designer is responsible for envisioning, planning, and creating all scenic design elements, including the spaces that they move through and the furnishings that fill them. Each production’s Director will envision the show’s aesthetic; in the service of their vision, and in collaboration with the Production Staff, the Designer is expected to deliver scenery that tells the story using the language of visual design to express aspects of the story’s time period, culture, mood, drama, and characterization, while remaining on time and on budget, and in accord with the Fine Arts Director’s vision for and authority over these productions as important features of the Fine Arts Department.

Required Skills

  • Training and experience in aesthetic vision, visual, and scenic design; preferred skills include: carpentry, architecture, drafting and sketching, model building, painting, etc.
  • Broad knowledge of theater and scenic design history; a mastery of facsimile and reproduction.
  • Expertise in preparing Scenic Design Plots.
  • Exceptional communication, organization, networking, budgeting, time and project management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word; excellent record keeping skills.
  • Driven, dedicated, a good collaborator, a great multitasker, and detail oriented.

Pay: $3,750.00 per year
