Your mission
Are you a talented Videographer/Mobile Transmission Technician with a passion for creating captivating visuals? Join our team and unleash your creativity… working primarily in news, current affairs, and sports programming. Without immediate supervision but in consultation with the appropriate operations or program centre, you will perform tasks required for the successful transmission of a technically acceptable signal. Step up to the challenge and be a crucial part of our dynamic production process, where you’ll have the freedom to craft visually stunning content while meeting tight deadlines.
Key Tasks
- Prepare, align and set up field cameras ensuring optimum visual and technical quality under prevailing conditions.
- Deliver and ingest all recorded materials.
- Perform simple maintenance of equipment in the field.
- Drive a motor vehicle daily.
- Perform all or part of the function or duties of an equivalent or lower classification.
- Contribute to social media.
- Prepare documentation for international travel.
Mobile Transmission Technician Key Tasks
- Surveys remote locations and determines the remote site for installation of equipment required for the coverage of the program to be transmitted.
- Makes all necessary arrangements to obtain authorization to install equipment close to or at the remote location production site.
- Using up to four cameras, performs non-sophisticated switching and mixing of audio and video signals.
- Contributes ideas and makes recommendations to overcome problems or achieve desired results.
- Drives transmission vehicles.
- Ensures safe operation of transmission vehicles and related equipment.
- Performs all or part of the functions or duties of an equivalent or lower classification.
- As assigned or required, may perform any or all of the following tasks:
- Operate vehicles requiring special operating licenses.
- Three years of specialized experience in the news field or remote broadcasting.
- Knowledge gained through community college graduation in television arts, or equivalent industry experience.
- Excellent level of technical knowledge and understanding of daily television and digital program production methods. This includes understanding picture composition and single camera lighting.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of audio and video signal transmission.
- Experience with LIVE television and daily news is essential.
- Knowledge of digital visual storytelling.
- Proficiency in ENG camera work, lighting set up and audio recording is a must.
- Must have prior experience in operating an SNG (Satellite News Gathering) truck.
- Strong understanding of timecode sync solutions for multi-camera setups.
- Familiar with video recording and photo capturing using DSLR cameras.
- Ability to edit recorded items on available edit systems such as Avid Media Composer, Avid Newscutter is an asset.
- Familiarity with CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices.
- Experience with double-ender kits, voice recording devices and iPhones is an asset.
- Experience with camera work in a studio or multi-camera live environment an asset.
- Must demonstrate leadership skills and the ability to pursue the acquisition of story elements with minimum supervision ensuring a high degree of accuracy, quality and creativity.
