As a VFX Supervisor at DigitalFilm Tree (DFT), you will be responsible for managing artists, schedules, and client expectations. You will work in conjunction with the head of our VFX department.
You will use your creativity and technical skills to guide in the creation of various effects, juggling multiple projects and executing the client’s vision, maintaining quality and adhering to provided schedules while being mindful of the constraints and well-being of the existing team. Following the head of VFX principles, you will guide the work methods of the team based on project needs, taking into account the requirements of the pipeline. Through your leadership, you will be responsible for supervising and guiding the team so they may achieve the quality for which DFT is known for.
Responsibilities include:
- Mapping efficient shot schedules in pre-production planning
- Working in tandem with a team of VFX artists to develop the ‘creative look’ on key shots
- Communicating and delegating the needs of a sequence or project to the team
- Tracking and recording all changes to scope of work, and verifying change orders
- Anticipating special project requirements (software, hardware, space) and ensuring needs are communicated
- Attending spotting sessions, client reviews and facilitating a dialogue regarding clarity of notes and implications on schedule to manage client expectation
- Reporting overall project status during weekly production meetings and as required
- Working independently and with other leads to bid incoming projects quickly and accurately, assess scope of work and turnaround times based on dynamic schedules
- Working with producers and coordinators to create delivery schedules for the project and maintaining weekly client status reports
- Ensuring project deliverables are managed and completed according to schedule
- Providing support and guidance to the artists (junior – senior artists) to achieve the best quality within time constraints and discovering the most efficient approaches for the project
- Performing quality control on shots and giving notes and technical guidance to artists to achieve the final product
Requirements:
- At least 5-7 years of experience within the film and television industry, preferable experience in lead roles and previous supervisory roles
- Strong artistic/creative sense and keen eye for detail to perform high level quality control on all outgoing deliverables
- Have experience with ShotGrid, FTrack, After Effects, Nuke, and Microsoft Office
- Ability to implement fast, effective solutions to shot-production challenges
- Show an in-depth understanding of the VFX process and pipeline
- Calm and effective communication and leadership skills while juggling multiple projects
- Possess the ability to lead and motivate a team
- Team player
- Strong technical problem-solving skills
- Open to feedback and new workflows or methodology
- Organizational skills
- Background as a VFX artist and an up-to-date understanding of current concepts and toolsets available
- On-set experience considered a plus
