DESCRIPTION:
The Obsidian Theatre Festival is seeking a Production Manager for its fourth season. The festival focuses on Black stories and celebrates new work by emerging Black voices. The Production Manager will be responsible for overseeing the production process and coordinating with various departments.
ABOUT:
The Obsidian Theatre Festival showcases the diversity of the Black experience and is produced by GhostLight Creative Productions, Incorporated and Nicely Theatre Group. The festival is dedicated to exploring universal themes and highlighting how intersecting identities shape our world. The festival consists of three parts: OTF Main Stage, Musical Theatre Showcase, and Obsidian Cabaret.
SEEKING:
A Production Manager with experience in Theatre and Musical Theatre. BIPOC artists are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates in the Detroit Metro area are preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create and manage the production calendar
- Coordinate with designers and technical director to establish deadlines
- Create and distribute rehearsal schedules
- Collect availability from directors and performers to create rehearsal schedule
- Oversee the production budget
- Attend meetings and retreats
- Coordinate production logistics
- Supervise the production department
- Coordinate with stage managers and designers
- Manage crew and ensure a safe work environment
- Create and distribute production books and reports
- Coordinate design and tech elements
- Respond to production and technical emails
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working on a variety of projects
- Knowledge of theatrical production procedures
- Strong organizational and leadership skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work under pressure
- Excellent communication skills
- Computer proficiency with Google Suite
SAFETY:
- All staff and participants must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19
- Follow health and safety guidelines and Covid-19 protocols
SCHEDULE:
The workload averages 10 hours per week prior to rehearsal weeks, with increased hours during rehearsal and production weeks. The position starts in December 2023 and ends on August 31, 2024. Specific dates for interviews, rehearsals, and performances are provided.
COMPENSATION:
Flat fee of $12,000 per year.
