Essential Job Duties
- In service of the Universityās mission, the department works with units to support the development of digital programs and pedagogies, as well as other flexible and/or nontraditional learning experiences.
- We offer a variety of credit and professional education programs through our unit and also provide support for programs across the University.
- In support of these programs, we provide strategy, coordination, and services to meet program needs, including but not limited to marketing, recruitment, program/course design and development, conference and event planning and support, and student/participant support.
- Through our programs and services, Digital and Lifelong Learning extends access to education for participants across the state and beyond and enables campus units to expand, share, and collaborate through support for their own research and educational programs.
Job Description
The Video Editor reports to the Creative Services Manager and collaborates with the Departmentās course development teams to transform raw clips and video footage into visually compelling educational components.
This role involves editing together a variety of media components, which may include audio, raw video, graphics, images, and 2D animations that align with instructional goals and narrative vision.
The Video Editor applies editing principles to convey complex concepts, ensuring seamless integration of visuals into learning content while capturing the organizationās and projectās brand essence.
Through their expertise, they play a vital role in elevating both learning experiences and the organizationās visual identity and high-quality production standards.
The ideal candidate should have a proven track record of editing impactful and informative videos that adhere to project guidelines and educational requirements.
This role requires an in-depth understanding of non-linear editing, graphic implementation within video, minor color correction, and audio mixing to create different video types that captivate and inform the target audience.

0 hours a week, Hybrid (~20% time onsite at Friday Center), Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (some variation in hours with events may occur)
Other Work/Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Collaborate with the content team (Creative Services, Instructional Design) to create compelling narratives through multimedia components that communicate the intended content effectively.
- Edit and assemble raw video footage and audio, ensuring a high-quality product that aligns with the project objectives and requirements.
- Enhance video quality by adjusting colors, selecting supplemental footage, and adjusting sound that produces the highest quality and engaging experience.
- Incorporate graphics, animations, and other visual elements to enrich video content and improve learner engagement.
- Ensure synchronization of audio and video, including sound effects, music, and voiceovers, for a seamless learner experience.
- Stay updated on the latest video editing software, techniques, and trends to maintain cutting-edge video post-production standards.
- Review and proof content for errors, glitches, and inconsistencies to maintain high-quality standards.
- Format and export videos in various resolutions and aspect ratios to cater to different platforms and devices.
- Manage multiple projects and deadlines concurrently while maintaining the highest level of quality and attention to detail.
This person will follow established UNC and DLL processes, standards, and accessibility guidelines as applicable to the activities stated above.
Minimum Experience/Education
Bachelorās degree in film, video production, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
Minimum of 3-4 years of professional experience as a Video Editor, with a portfolio showcasing a diverse range of video projects highlighting post-production work with interviews, b-roll, graphic overlays, and audio.

- Strong proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, Audition, After Effects, Illustrator, Photoshop) and other relevant video editing tools.
- Knowledge of motion graphics, animation, and visual effects is a plus.
- Understanding of digital accessibility as it applies to video content.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
