Job Summary

AUSA News is looking for a creative, driven, and experienced Freelance Senior Producer at News 12 NJ to assist in the broadcast of live daily news programming. The candidate will have experience working in live news with expertise in writing scripts and working within show rundowns. Knowledge of general news, business news, technology innovations, and cultural news is necessary. The candidate must also be able to time multiple hours of live shows from the control room, oversee the show team when the EP is out, and mentor more junior producers. The successful candidate must be a self-starter and independent worker. At the same time, you must be adaptable and flexible, a team player who is able to mix easily and work effectively in our small and highly collaborative team. You are expected to be in the office during your shift each day.

Responsibilities

• Requires the know-how to determine the best news stories for the newscast and the ability to delegate duties to producers and production assistants.
• Coordinate with the Executive Producer to make great editorial decisions.
• Work with producers on segment development, reports to daypart EP.
• Time and take charge of the LIVE show in the control room.
• Communicate with show teams, production teams, and anchors on all show-related rundowns and changes (before, during, and after each show).
• Write news scripts, teases, and promos for live programming.
• Oversees checks in the control room before each show to ensure all errors are corrected before going live.
• Build show graphics and elements in rundown software (ENPS).
• Generate exceptional story ideas, including breaking news and creative story angles.
• Pinpoint excellent segments to be shared with distribution partners.

Qualifications

• Experience in live production.
• 6+ years of live broadcast and control room experience.
• Excellent research and writing skills.
• Strong grammar, copy editing, and communication skills.
• Familiarity with ENPS or similar rundown program.
• Working knowledge of production and post-production techniques.
• Familiarity with SEO, RSS, Twitter, Facebook, and other social media.
• Organizational skills and ability to work under tight deadlines.
