Job Description

The Senior Designer will be working within a well-established multi-discipline business as part of a “concept to completion” Design and Build development team. The role requires the ability to work across and lead a multidisciplinary team in order to follow through projects from concept to completion. The Senior Designer must be a strong team leader and a knowledgeable designer with experience in the hospitality design sector. They will be responsible for delivering and checking detailed commercial drawing packs, designing within budget, and having a sound understanding of Design and Build.

Principle Duties

• On-site detailed measured survey
• Feasibility studies tailored to client requirements
• Reviewing feasibility studies and resolving identified issues
• Client-facing to establish client brief and continuously develop project
• Working closely with project stakeholders to develop approved layouts
• Working with third-party consultants and suppliers
• Adapting design to produce comprehensive tender packages
• Creation of full construction packages
• Working with external 3D visualization team
• Negotiating relevant project approvals
• Working with delivery team to ensure project is on budget and on schedule
• Ownership and responsibility for leading projects
• Knowledge of building control and regulation implementation and compliance

Job Role on Occasion

• Creation of initial conceptual design intent packages
• Working with external graphic design team for graphical branding implementation
• Adapting existing interior brands or environments

Person Specification: Knowledge and Expertise

Essential Criteria:

• Ability to create conceptual sketch ideas
• Ability to create conceptual construction detail
• Ability to resolve creative ideas into buildable tender/construction drawings
• Ability to create detailed construction drawings with specified reference to interior construction and fit out
• Ability to take a design lead on a project and effectively manage project information
• Understanding of CDM2015 and the roles and responsibilities of the Principle Designer
• Ability to complete a design risk assessment and understand the implications of CDM2015
• Good knowledge of building regulation structure and relevant guidance implementation

Desirable Criteria:

• Basic knowledge of statutory authority planning application processes
• Experience with catering design and associated equipment specification
• Basic knowledge of all M&E considerations within a food service environment
• Understanding of the Design and Build business model
• Understanding of the minor works business model

Skills and Abilities

Essential Criteria:

• Keen eye for high-quality detail and ability to review on-site construction work
• Proficiency in AutoCAD 2021, SketchUp Pro, Microsoft Office
• On-site surveying skills
• Proficient time management and methodical working
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Gmail e-mail and calendar system
• Ability to drive or use public transport for site visits

Desirable Criteria:

• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite

• Suitable university or other formal design-based qualification
