La Trobe University : Connected motorcycle technology controlled on-road trails

We are researchers at the Centre for Technology Infusion at La Trobe University. Our team is conducting an ongoing project titled “Motorcyclist Safety: Connected Motorcycle Pilot.”

Below is detailed information about our project: The objective of our project is to explore and evaluate connected safety technologies in collaboration with motorcycle riders. Our goals include:

• Assessing the maturity of the technology, identifying use cases, and addressing knowledge gaps.
• Determining the optimal way to deliver safety information to riders.
• Evaluating the performance and impact of connected safety solutions.

A critical component of our research involves conducting controlled on-road trials to test these technologies. For this purpose, we are searching for stunt drivers who can help us simulate the following scenarios as realistically as possible:

• Rear-end collision
• Intersection scenarios (left or right turn)
• Head-on collision
• Curve handling

We plan to conduct these trials in the second half of 2024, with specific dates yet to be determined. The trials will involve approximately 120 riders who will visit a site (like METEC driver training) to test the technologies and participate in different road scenarios. As a result, the trials could run for up to 30 days.
