Job Description

The SHSU MFA Program in Creative Writing, Editing, and Publishing is looking for a freelance professional Social Media Specialist who will assist in managing program social media accounts, marketing campaigns and content (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn).

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Mostly remote, but will need to travel to Huntsville, TX periodically to take photography for content
• Create graphics for social media
• Run and coordinate photo shoot campaigns
• Report results from social media channels
• Conduct extensive audience, placement, and platform research to help create strategy and best practices
• Provide strategic direction on campaigns and initiatives by identifying key messages/value proposition and the best means to communicate that
• Manage photoshoots and content creation
• Review consumer data and website traffic data and develop social media strategy

Qualifications

• 2+ years social media experience in a higher education setting, preferably in the humanities and arts
• Familiarity with graduate MFA programs
• Experience with social media coordination, writing posts, organic social campaigns
• Expert skills with Facebook, Twitter (X), and Instagram
• Strong writing skills and understanding of social media best practices
• Understanding of marketing analytics and tools
• Experience in graphic design (1-2 years), primarily in Photoshop and InDesign
• Stays up to date on social media trends
• Good eye for photography
• Robust portfolio featuring content and captions

Additional Information

Pay Range: $25-40/hr for 50-80 hours of paid work per academic year, with potential for increased hours after campaign development

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $25.00 - $40.00 per hour
