JOB DESCRIPTION
The Set Designer shall work alongside professional theater personnel. They shall perform each and every duty and obligation with due diligence and to the best of their knowledge, skill, judgment, and ability. The Set Designer is expected to devote such amounts of time, energy and skill as may be necessary to perform the duties required hereunder. Hours are dependent on performance times and include some nights and weekends.
Opportunities, duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Attending weekly production meetings
- Coordinating with the Technical Director, the Artistic Director, the Production Carpenter, the Props Master and other designers
- Providing workable drawings (electronic and hard copy, with all necessary dimensions and scales), and paint schedules to the TD and Producer on an agreed upon schedule
- Attending the designer run-through. Scenic painting is excluded from the Independent Contractorâs responsibilities under this agreement
- The Independent Contractor agrees to be available at such times and places as are reasonably designated by the Artistic Director to meet with other Theatre personnel, the Producer and/or the Board of Directors
REQUIREMENTS
- Capacity to solve problems
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Good communication skills and the ability to work with a team and skillfully delegate work
- Awareness of safety issues and precautions, especially under Equity Union standard
- Understanding of the artistic process
- Cultural competency. The ability to interact with people of different cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds effectively with understanding and tolerance.
REPORTS TO
The Set Designer reports directly to the Director. Final employment authority is with the Producer and Artistic Director.
COMPENSATION
$2,700 fee, plus lodging, 2 comp tickets, gym membership, company doctor support and bus pass.

COMMITMENT
This is a non-union position running for the Saugatuck Center for the Artsâ 2024 Theater season. It is a temporary seasonal, contract position. It is possible to hold this position for more than one production per season.
