Job Description

The Hurlbert Lab in the Department of Biology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking a Software Developer to contribute to mobile app development, web-based data visualization, and database QA/QC tools for an ecology-based citizen science project called Caterpillars Count! This is a part-time position with a flexible schedule and remote work possible.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or closely related degree
• 3 years of experience in operations analysis and design, systems programming, or closely related area
• Or, a bachelor’s degree and 4 years of experience in operations analysis and design, systems programming, or closely related area
• Or, an associate’s degree in Computer Information Technology, Computer Engineering Technology, or Networking Technology and 5 years of experience in operations analysis and design, systems programming, or closely related area
• Or, an equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Qualifications

• BS in Computer Science, or equivalent experience
• Experience with web and mobile app development, including PHP, MySQL, JavaScript, jQuery, HTML, CSS, and Git
• Familiarity with Apache Cordova is a plus
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to work independently
• Attention to detail
• Ability to think strategically and proactively
