Job Description:

Looking for a dynamic Choral Director-Conductor who is approachable, energetic, well-versed in choral music and vocal skills, and has experience working with non-auditioned adult singers. The Wilmington Choral Society, a premier non-auditioned community chorus which has been in existence for 74 years, performs at the prestigious Wilson Center at Cape Fear Community College and holds two formal concerts annually in December and April. Responsibilities include leading chorus rehearsals, planning concert themes, ordering music, hiring instrumental musicians and soloists, and working collaboratively with a paid accompanist.

Requirements:

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a choral leadership role
• Demonstrated ability to work with non-auditioned adult singers with a wide range of musical ability and experience
• Adept at teaching vocal skills and musical concepts in an encouraging atmosphere
• Advanced degree in Music Education or related field desirable

Position Details:

• Part-time contract position beginning July 1, 2024, with an opportunity for earlier strategic input
• Rehearsal time: 1 ½ hours weekly (late August - December & late January - April)
• 2 concerts annually in December and April
• Salary: $3,000 per concert season
