Job Description

Daily Kos is the nation’s largest liberal online political community, news organization, and activism hub. We are seeking a Freelance Designer to support the ongoing evolution of dailykos.com and associated products. In this role, you will work with the technology and product teams to produce wireframes, comps, and Figma files for website concepts and final designs that support readers’ and activists’ engagement on the site. You will report to the Senior Director of Program Management to ensure your designs and specifications advance the strategic goals of the organization and the progressive movement.

Responsibilities

• Work with the product and technology teams to understand project requirements and specifications
• Work within the existing Daily Kos design system (fonts, colors, etc)
• Produce wireframes and final design solutions that vary in complexity from updating a web form with additional fields to full page designs
• Document work as needed
• Effectively collaborate with remote teammates
• Be available and responsive to communication during the workday, and available to turn small projects around in a timely manner
• Actively engage with the user community on dailykos.com to ensure a thorough understanding of user perspectives and needs, fostering company-wide success through stakeholder alignment

Requirements

• Detail-oriented, with excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Understanding of Agile and Scrum development practices
• Familiarity with how software is developed and released
• Ability to partner with a diverse group of stakeholders with competing interests
• Comfort with extracting meaningful signals from large data sets
• A portfolio of comparable work that can be evaluated
• Proficiency in design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD
• Ability to design and deliver user flows and journey maps
• Understanding of user-centered design principles and best practices
• Ability to communicate design ideas and prototypes to developers and stakeholders
• Knowledge of accessibility standards and guidelines
• Familiarity with HTML and CSS is a plus
• Candidates must be legally eligible to work in the United States
