Job Description
The University of Birmingham’s High Temperature Research Centre (HTRC) is seeking a software system developer to join a committed IT Support Team. This role is based in Coventry and is on a fixed-term contract for up to 12 months, with a full-time starting salary range of £31,396 to £33,966, potentially progressing to £38,205. The position involves designing and implementing SQL-based systems for data integration from a small manufacturing facility and developing a SharePoint-based document management system.
The successful candidate will collaborate closely with various teams and stakeholders to enhance current systems and will play a crucial role in data management and system integration within a high-quality research and development environment.
Requirements
Educated to A level or equivalent in a computing-related subject, MCSE, or other industry-recognized IT qualifications, along with GCSE passes in English and Mathematics.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Extensive knowledge of Microsoft SQL
- Experience of Microsoft SharePoint
- Experience of relational databases, database design, and database programming
- Experience of using REST or SOAP APIs
- Experience in programming
- Experience using source control
- Experience writing automated tests
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent analysis and troubleshooting skills
- A continuous improvement mentality
Desirable Skills:
- Experience of integrating data from different systems
- Experience of Microsoft Power BI
- Experience of document management systems
- Experience of developing and using web APIs
- ITIL awareness
Additional Information
The role involves no direct financial or staff management responsibility and requires collaboration with colleagues to meet the IT support priorities. A DBS check and a BPSS check will be required prior to appointment due to the nature of the work.
